The opening phrase of this song started off as a riff that I wrote while sitting in an extremely long gas line in NYC. I'm talking 4-5 hours sitting in my car inching along 4h Ave in Brooklyn. There had been a superstorm and all the gas stations were running out. I decided to live tweet/video writing a new song. (Traffic was stopped fro 30+ mins at a time). I played the first phrase and the rest of the song came along quickly. If we are friends on Facebook you can see the early videos from writing the song.

Light & Shade is another reference to the idea of light and dark, that both are parts of life. The title is about the idea of the quiet whisper and the roar of life's unending melody. Knowing the light because of the dark, the sunrise because of the night.
