Gateway Blues

from Light Cycles by Josh Maxey

/

about

This is the first of the three interludes included on the album. The idea for the interludes was to include elements from the songs that the quartet recorded and re-shape them a bit.

This one was written by everyone in attendance. I had the guitar part, and the rest of the parts were written together. Jessica played flute, Mike played harmonica and the time is held together by David. It's a bit of a bridge from Argument for the Blues to the next song, The Tombs.

On the chorus, I sing the word HU along with the guitar part, flute and harmonica. I've used the word HU in contemplation for years and found it helpful. It's been a 'gateway' for me into experiencing a greater sense of love.
