about

I feel that I am giving all the secrets out for this record, but it's in an effort to give others a window into how the music came together and hopefully suggest how you can undertake your own works.

I always wanted to title an album with a great title then include the title track on a different album, so this is that song. Cycles of Sound, the album, was the 6 to be recorded in 12 months (actually it was recorded live with about a month to spare on the year mark). It recapped the series with a live take on the music.

This song started off a little different than what you hear here. It was a bit slower, but still with the triplet feel. It is a short form, a minor blues of sorts. It has an odd bar form in the B section and changes a keys a few times on the B. The A section riff outlines D minor.

This is some of my favorite playing of Rodney's. I mean. Listen to that! His solo 1/2 way through the song is the highlight for me. An equal to his feature playing is the rhythm guitar. I remember in the studio Jeremy said "Listening in the phones as we started the song, I heard what Rodney was playing and thought 'that is_exactly_what guitar is supposed to play!"

Couldn't agree more.

The tag out on this one is massive RJ and Chase play like crazy. I had written it as a drum solo, and Jeremy is right there. Brian and I hold down the A section riff.
